The Government has issued warrants for the arrest of the chief labor leaders, and the police are searching the suburbs and the city. A number of ugly lights have taken place in towns in all parts of France between the police and strikers, and cavalry were forced to intervene. Revolver shots were fired, particularly at Marseilles, where nine police were wounded. Violent scenes have taken place at Clermont and Ferrand, where two thousand rubber workers are striking. The workers in the Miehelin factory attempted to carry on, and strikers attacked the factory- Michelins' firemen turned hoses on the strikers, and a free fight ensued. The troops were called' out, and the strikers threw the chasseurs from their horses- Finally artillerymen arrived. Fifty strikers and soldiers were wounded, some seriously. Michelins' were forced to close their factory, throwing 12,500 out of employ-ment.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. LEADERS MANY SHIPS IDLE. Received May 6, 1.15 a.m. Paris, May 5. Several strike leaders were arrested in various places- A couple of extremists who are wanted left Paris. Ninety vessels are idle at Marseilles. Bordeaux and other ports are in a similar condition.—Unitgd Service* DEADLOCK AT PORTS. i 24,000 DOCKERS ON STRIKE. * London, May 4. Twenty-four thousand dockers have Btruck at Brest, Marseilles, Bordeaux, and Havre. The stoppage at the principal ports is complete. The mob rioted at Marseilles in an attempt to prevent the, arrest of a union secretary. Shots were exchanged and several persons were injured.
