CLARET CUP INCIDENT.
FUNCTION FOR THE PRINCE. Wangamii, April 17. In connection with the claret-cup controversy, exception is taken by the Ladies' Committee to the Press Association description of the function as "A juvenile gathering."' The guests include first the single young people of the town oyer the age of 18 years; secondly, all returned soldiers, their wives and mothers; thirdly, South African veterans and their wives; fourthly, Maori war veterans and their wives. To describe sucli a function as a juvenile gathering seems lacking in precision. A Press Association message from Wanganji stated that a deputation of temperance workers waited upon tho Ladies' Committee, who have charge of the catering of a function in connection with the visit of the Prince of Wales, and asked that claret-cup be cut out as a beverage. Tin function was described as "a juvenile gathering'' in the telegram.
