EDUCATION BOARD APPOINTMENT.
! • To tlie EditorSir,—Do you not think something is due to our boys especially to those who have come back mmU e through loss of limbs to take up their old positions? These men have liad to j seek their living In other quarters, and these are the men wo should help, and I say It Is up l 0..: > Peop e. especially the men who stayed behind snugly in their homeß and made their homes and made their "little" plfe, to help these maimed men a little. It has been nude clear to us that we cannot do enough ! for thorn, I think so, at anyrate, and every other decent thinking man of British birth Is nf the same thought. Evidently not so the Tnranakl Education Board. Now this Board Is comprised of men who are (at least some J t m have said ao on numerous occasions Md have been very emphatic about It) moat terribly anxious (?) to help our bovs iuid at last this chance comes afong, and they turn it flat down. Nofr, people of Tnranaki wlten a position was rendered vacant by a man, a married man, mark you, resigning,'was It a fair thing to pass over fully qualified married men (returned soldiers) to give that position to a single member, of the female seix £ 3 °o per annum. The advertisement Rtated that the Boi.rd required an accountant, fits., at a salary of £3OO per annum. Why, m«ny men keep the home going even In theso days on ailmost half that amount. However, 1. have no Interest In the monetary part or tho business. The young lady In question mav ho absolutely efficient, and it Is not an easy matter to find a person able to satisfy the requirements of the Board, but. I think a male applicant should have been chosen before passIns on to the female list. I note that a man has been appointed to fl'il the young lady s position in the Education Board office, but the Board applied for an accountant, not a clerk to fill n. vacancy rendered by her coin/? up a step. This Is an instance of how the gentlemen- who stayed at home are showing their appreciation of the men who went to fight and protect them.—l am etc. "DISGUSTED."
