THE STRATFORD BY-ELECTION
MR. MASTERS AT POHOKURA. On Saturday evening Mr. Masters addressed aii enthusiastic gathering at Pohekura, there being about 115 present in the schoolroom- Mr. IX Pitcaithlv occupied the chair. The candidate dealt briefly with the petition, setting out the unfair methods of political warfare adopted. His advocacy of a free and open market, and his reasons for coming to such a conclusion met with the approval of his audience. ''Jt is apparent," said Mr. Masters, "that under the present system of operation for the disposal of primary products that the farmers are not getting the full products (jf their labor, and colossal profits are being made by dealers according to the commissioned' report as submitted to the House of Commons. On the one hand you have an advocate in the Liberal candidate of a free and open market, on the other an advocate of a eonuouation of the present system." At the conclusion of the address, Mr, Hellier moved, and Mr. A. McCluggagc seconded, a vote of thanks for his address and complete confidence in Mr, Masters as member for the district, with the hope that he be returned again for .the seat. > At the invitation of the candidate, all present, with the exception or one gentleman, remained behind and formed themselves into an organisation to secure Mr. Masters' return to Parliament. .r
