s ; . .NEW. PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL. MEETING OF GENERAL PURPOSES ' COMMITTEE. A meeting of the General Purposes Committee of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. Jas. Clarke) and Councillors .1. W. llaydeii F. J. Hill, F. W. Short, K. L. Parkin, y' Griffiths COUNTY WHEEL TAX. An intimation was received from the Inglewood Borough Council that the Mayor (Mr. J. Sutherland) had been appointed to represent the Council before the Commission of Inquiry regarding the Taranaki County Council's vehicles licensing by-law. The Inglewood Council expressed appreciation of the prompt action taken in this connection by the New Plymouth Borough Council. Another letter in this connection was received from the Stratford Chamber of Commerce, who. while being opposed to the by-law, did not think they could offer any evidence that would be of service in the case. LIGHTING EXTENSIONS. F. 0. Mills, wrote asking if the Council could see its way to erect an extra street light at the eastern end of Leech Street.—The electrical engineer said he could not advise making the addition until after the winter ns all available power would he required for lighting consumers. ■T. W. H. Martin, BrooklamU Road, made further application for electric light and water services to his property on that road.—The matter was referred to the Works Rub-Committee for consideration when dealing with the new loan, proposals. EMPLOYEES' DWELLINGS. The question of erecting two cottages for employees of the Council sit the power station exercised the Council for 'ome time, the clerk reporting that no tenders had been received for the works. One firm of con tractors wrote offering to do the work on a percentage basis. but the Council was not favorable to that, and (lie matter was referred to the Council's Housing Committee.
