April 9. Miss M. Jenkins, who haa been librarian here for a number of years, is taking her departure for Sydney in about a fortnight's time. A committee was formed last evening, consisting of Misses Bland, Jones, Sketton, Purdie, Pennington, Schnfield, Rouse, Kyle, Ronnie, Spurdle, Johnston, and Mesdameg A. Andrews and Anderson; Messrs. C. Sampson, Les. Sampson, E. Proctor, and T. H. B, Ewens for the purpose of arranging a social on her behalf. It was proposed to hold same on 14th April. The annual gathering of the North Taranaki Troop of the Legion of Frontiersmen took place last evening in the Foresters' Hall, Lieut. J. W. Laing presiding over an attendance of 06 members. Visitors were present from the English and Scottish commands, as well as from Okato, Rahotu, Inglewood, Urenui, Wanganui, Whangamomona, and New Plymouth. The evening took the form of n dinner, in which comradeship was once again re-united. A varied toast list was gone through, interspersed with songs. An orchestra had been engaged, but the pianist (Mr. MurrayFowler) failed to turn up owing to an urgent case at the last moment to earnsome work in connection with hi* business. However, the other instrumentalists carried on most creditably.
