INGLEWOOD.
THE NEW COUNTY. (From Our Own Correspondent,) At the last meeting of the Moa Road Board, on Wednesday, 3ist March ult., the chairman, Mr. A. Corkill, told the Hoard that he had received advice from the Government that after that date the Roard no longer existed and that, until the Council of thennetw t county of Tnglewood was elected, there was no local or other authority to carry on the works in progress, nor even to contTol the ordinary routine work such as maintenance of roads, etc. He explained that this would lead to a state of chaos if allowed, and that therefore he had taken it upon himself to instruct all the Board's employees to keep going in the ordinary wayj and inferred that he was prepared, if necessary, to meet any urgent calls out of his own resources until matters could be once more put on a proper footing-
A reply was received by Mr. Corkill on Wednesday evening, and was to the effect that the Road Board should carry on until the new body, the County Council of Inglewood, has been dulr elected and formally iestablished. Thus, by Mr. Corkill's forethought, what might have proved a very awkward position lias been avoided and the Council when elected will find everything in order and ready to its hand, instead of paving to deal with matters in confusion with everything at a loose end, needing all the preliminary bother of being put into proner going condition before even the ordinary work of such a local body could be gone on with."
