Tuna llarimana, till ISs (id to be paid forthwith, or eleven days' imprisonment; (.'. K .Jeffries v. Tuna Harimana, £2 lis fid to he paid forthwith, or 3 days; E. C. T. Button v. .1. AV. Terrill, £2O lis 4rl, to be paid by instalments of £2 per month; H. .1. Eaves v. H. L, Sleight, £!) 4s to be paid'forthwith, or nine days. 'For permitting stock to stray on the roads. Geo. AV. Rogers was fined £1 and costs 33s 6d, and E. A. Pepperell was fined 10s and costs 27s fid. dames and Mabel Marsh v. Reg. Newman, claim £55 16s. The Magistrate, after hearing the evidence, non-snited plaintiff with costs stis, and witness' expenses 18s 3d. In a claim for grazing and work done by Larsen Bros against G. L. Young, amounting to ,t!ol 12s, defendant'filed a counter-claim for wages and materials. Both', claims were non-suited, the parties having to pay their own costs. GENERAL. The lighting of the main street has been considerably improved by pl&cing three large are lamps over the road and doing away with the smaller ones. The lease of two sections put up for a notion on Saturday by the Harbor Board was disposed of to Gaustad, Marlow and Co., and the Farmers' Co-oper-ative Society. Lot 1, the vacant section next to Messrs. Topless Bros., was sold to Mr. Gaustad at the upset rental ut .€22 10s per annum. Lot 2, the vacant section between Ogle's and Nolan's shed, was sold t) the Farmers' Co-op. at'the upset price of Lis per foot. This section is in continuation of their present allotment, and I believe it is their intention to put up a decent-sized building for their YVailara branch. AVord has been" received that the s.s. Port Chalmers is to load in the AYaitara roadstead about the middle of the month.
The Chautauqua season closed on Thursday. It was announced that Waitara would be cut out next year, owing to the poor audiences. The applicants who have been anxiously waiting telephone installations have had their hopes raised another step during the last few days, as the linesmen have been putting in the wires in readiness for the 'phones. Mr. S. Wyllie. headmaster at the school, is reported to be in very poor health, and will probably take leave of absence for a month.
The school is having an unfortunate run this year, what with being closed for some time after the holidays through sickness being prevalent, and Air. Butler (second in command) leaving, and now Mr. Wyllie being laid up, it all tends to put the year's work behind. Large catches of flounders have been caught the last few days on the mud banks of the. river near the bridge.
Mr. Leslie, late of tlie Waitara Hotel, with his family, intends taking a long holiday in the South Island before returning to live privately at Auckland. Talking to a friend o« mine on holiday from Rotorua, he states great preparations are being made for the Prince's visit to that town. Those that are lucky enough to secure accommodation have got to pay nothing less than £1 a day. No doubt they are going to make hay whilst the sun shines—or whilit the Prince ahis*
