PEACE PROPOSALS OP 1917By Telegraph.—Press Ansa.—Cop/rigM. Received April 4, fi.s p.m. Pari9, April 2. Striking evidence waa given yesterday at the Caillaux trial by a leading accountant, who has ibeen investigating the prisoner's fortune. The witness declared the methods by which Caflkttx obtained money were above suspicion. Another witness stated Lipseher had been offered 30,000 francs by the French police to give false evidence. Deputy Dutreil recalled Caillaux's nri« vate statement in October, 1917, ▼hen he expressed the opinion that France Wa» ruined, and an early peace was desirable on the following terms:,—The restoration of Alsace-Lorraine; the provision of a. reparations common fund, to which all belligerents would contribute, the defeated nations •ontributing the largest share; the return of the German Colonies, as it was not France's, but England's, interest to keep the German territories for the purpose of conducting an economic war after the war.
