THE COST OF LIVING.
GREATER PRODUCTION URGED. In his annual address to shareholder? of the Farmers' Co-operative Auctioneering Company at Hamilton, the chairman attempted to .enumerate the causes that contribute to the present l|igh cost of living. He considered they were as follows:—(1) The war, its cost'and*consequences, including the enormous withdrawal of men ftom fields of production (2) speculation; (3) profiteering; (4) labor unions' campaigns, strikes, etc.; (5) go-slow policy; (6) high price of land; (7) the decreased efficiency of labor; (8) increased wages. "To my >iind," said Mr. Barugh, ''there is no doubt that these causeH have in no small degree influenced the rising cost of living. It, therefore, behoves us all to do our utmost to remedy the position, which can only bo "effected by greater (in quantity, not merely value), in every field and "branch of manufacture, etc.* and to strive to bring all kinds of labor to fr higher piano of efficiency. Farmers will, I trust, heed the Prime Minister's advice in this respect, namely, 'Production and Economy."
