JERSEY CATTLE.

MR. F. W. CORNWALL'S FORTHCOMIXG SALK. (Published by Arrangement). A sale of pedigree Jersey cattle to Tie held on June 11 on behalf of Mr. F. W.Cornwall, of Bell Block, one of the bestknown and most successful breeders of stud stock in the province, will afford a rare opportunity to dairy farmers to secure fashionably bred butter-fat producing animals. Mr. Cornwall has been in the very forefront of breeders of Jerseys in Taranaki—the home of the Jersey in the Dominion—for many years and they have 110 more ardent admirer; He Admires the "queen of the 1 dairy cows" not alone for her beauty because of her productivity, and whilst due regard has always beeii paid % him' to breed characteristics, the question of yield has been regarded as being of even more importance. Hence the remark that buyers will have an exceptional opportunity of eecuring iinlrr.uls not only of excellent type but rilso high producers of butter-fat.

Mr. Cornwall's foundation stock came from such grand cows as Snowstorm and Grissette, and the herd has descended from such sires as K.C.8.. Campanile's Sultan, and Soumise Majesty. He has also used a son of Campanile's Sultan, "Ciceros Sultan," from Mermaid, he tying a full brother to Mr. A. E. Watkin's' Mermaid's Sultan, so well-known in Southern Taranaki, and "Belvedere Prospect," a son of K.C.8., from Thistle V., bred by Mr. Eagle, of Carterton, whilst during the last two years he has been using "Hollybank Squire," a 3on ofThe_ Squire and Astor's Bilberry. The Squire, it will be remembered, is an imported son of Noble of Oaklands, and Astor's Bilberry is the cow that was recently sold at auction in Uawera for 270 guineas and which frequently milked as high as 711b per day. The quality of the stock by Hollybank Squire has manifested itself in recent New Plymouth shows. In 1019 Mr. Cornwall was first and second respectively with two. of his heifer calves and first with one of his bull calves, and at the show held a week or two ago he won first prize in the Jersey Oaks in stronfr competition and was second with a yearling daughter in a class of 30 or 37. The only daughter yet in milk was only 15 months old when she calved and has milked as high as '2Slb daily, a splendid indication of dairy quality and a point of importance to prospective buyers, the whole of the cows being in calf to this sire. Mr. Cornwall has been herd testing and culling for the last four years and the majority of the 35 cows to he offered for sale have already this season produced over 3001b of butter-fat and several have passed the 4001b mark. One member of the herd, Rowland's Girl, has been milking 190 days ahd has pronuccd 383.201b of fat. Last season Mr. .Cornwall's herd headed the test list |t the Bell Block factory. The cows have not been artificially fed and have been milked both by hand and machine and are particularly quiet. In addition to the 35 cows, nine bulls will be offered, including' Hollybank Squire of his sons. A number of pedigree Berkshire pigs of excellent quality will also be offered.
