There was only a comparatively small attendance at the Town Hall on Saturday night, when a concert was provided by the Wanganui (Harrison Band, assisted by several vocalists. The various items on the programme were thoroughly enjoyed by those present. At the Nguere Hardens yesterday', the Wanganui Garrison Band gave a delightful programme of 'music before a large and appreciative crowd. Another entertainment, will l )e provided at the gardens on Oood Friday, particulars of which will be advertised later. Mr. R. Al. Peattie, ?ate stationmaster at Stratford, left this morning with his family for Wanganui, to wlucii place he has been transferred. Mr. C. T. Bead, fohnerly of iiasterton, is the new stationmaster. The benzine shortage is making it nry (1 ill jcult for many farmers to come into Stratford with their oatr. On Saturday the number of country visitors was smaller than usual, due it is slated, solely to the difliculty car owners have in securing supplies of Ihc precious fluid. A start tins been made with the work of beautifying the side of the road adjacent to the Domain, in Page Street It is intended to fence off a portion of the roadway and plant it with trees and flowering .shrubs. The work, when completed, will add considerably to the appearance of that portion of the town. It's time to have that long-promised portrait taken. No need to wait for a J fine day.
