DESERTION OP A WIFE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Palmerston North, March 29. At the Magistrate's Court, Henry John Frame, a young man, was committed for trial for alleged indecent assault on a girl of twelve years. George Bernard, a returned soldier and cook at Trcntham Camp, was convicted for failure to provide maintenance for his wife. He was ordered to come up for sentence if called tip. Counsel for complainant said that Bernard married his wife in Ensrland. and deserted her the day after their arrival in the Dominion. The Magistrate also ordered the defendant's gratuity, which was in the hands of the Patriotic Society, who had been supporting complainant, to be paid into court to satisfy the arrears of maintenance and the balance to be as security for further maintenance.
