SEA-FRONT EROSION.

DAMAGE AT THE EAST END,

BOROUGH COUNCIL TAKES ACTION,

j The serious nature of the erarion which is taking place along the tea* front at the East End was pointed out by the engineer in a report submitted to the New Plymouth Borough Council last night. • The engineer urged that the matter should receive immediate attention. The position around the East End Reserve was that the erosion is well up to the pavilion, the trees immediately in front are undermined, and some danger to the building is caused thereby. ' The Mayor stated that a special committee of the Council had visited the locality that day in company with the consulting engineer (Mr. Blair liaison), Several councillors observed that the continual erosion of the sea-front Was undoubtedly a serious matter, and it wa» agreed that it was imperative that steps should be taken to arrest the trouble. "The coast has been steadily eaten away year after year, and there are eev-i eral educational leaees out fit sea somewhere," remarked a councillor. He added that in past years cows used to graze where the surf now breaks.

It was decided to get the consulting engineer to report on the matter immediately.
