ENTERTAINMENTS.

EVERYBODY'S, "EXPLOITS OF SUBMARINE U. 35" TO-NIGHT. To-night, at Everybody's, a complete change of progranniie will be submitted for this one night only. The principle feature of the ordinary programme is a "Jewel" six-reel super-lilm, entitled /'When a Girl Loves," with Mildred Harris (Mre. Charlie Chaplin) in the leading role. As an added and extra attraction with to-night's programme the management will'also screen the wonderful topical picture, "The Exploits of U. 35," an amazing picture of the ruthless methods by which the Hun pirate sunk numbers of British and Allied vessels. A private screening of the picture was given yesterday to a number of prominent citizens, and there is no doubt about the- genuineness of the picture. It was used in Germany and Austria during the war as a propaganda picture by the advocate of "Murder on the high seas," otherwise the "German Submarine Campaign," and shows in an amazing manner the cool and callous way our merchant ships were attacked and sunk by the disciples of frigktfulness.. The screening time for the submarine picture will be S 30 to-night. THE PEOPLE'S. "EXPLOITS OF U. 35" TO-NIGHT, At a private screening yesterday of the Admiralty film, "Exploits of 11.35," the imprcssiveness and authenticity of the picture was realised by those who witnessed it. The picture was seized in Germany by the British Government, from whom it was purchased at a high figure. Its bonafides are guaranteed, but those who view the film will be convinced immediately of its genuineness. The submarine raider is seen pursuing and shelling merchantmen and large steamers and sailers. Then it ranges abreast of its victims and at a close range fires at the w.iterlines of its captives. The shell! rip gaping wounds in the sides of the helpless cargo boat* and some awful spectacles eijsue as the huge, vessels dive like leviathans beneath the waves. The scecning commences to-night at the People's at 7.0 V), and the bill includes latest gazette and a Billy West comedy. CHAUTAUQUA OPENS TO-DAY. Chautauqua week opens to-day, in the large marquee now being erected opposite the railway station. The afternoon performance opens at a quarter to three o'clock, when the famous New Zealand Lyric Quartette will make their bow to a New Plymouth audience. In the evening the Quartette will again appear, and at ten minutes to nine o'clock Dr. Arthur D. Carpenter will deliver his popular astronomical lecture "Worlds in the Making." The sale of season tickets, according to arrangement, ceases to-day, and as only a limited number are now available, intending patrons should make early application to-day for their tickets at the booking offices or from any member of the committee. The order of programme, etc., appears in our adver- , tisin* columns.
