Mr. D. Morrison, manager of the Cnion Steamship Company in New Plymouth, who has been in a private hospital fur some weeks, left for Auckland last night, on n holiday. Mr. 10. C. 'Banks, of Matamata, has been nominated for the East Ward of the New Zealand Dairy Association. Mr. Banks is chairman of the Auckland Education Board, and a director of the New Zealand Fanners' Bacon Company. News has been received of the death in London of Mr. Max. Hayman, until recently a member of the firm of P. Hayman and Co. He was general manager in New Zealand until *2O years ago, when he went Home to the London ofticc. The late Mr. Augustus Edward Braithwaitc, postmaster at Ponsonby, Auckland, who was murdered on Saturday night, was a well-liked and highly-re-spected member of the service, and the news of his violent end came like a shock to his fellow-ollieials. The deceased joined the service in Wellington in September, 1870, and after learning to use the Morse instrument in the local gallery for beginners, served successively in Waimate, Nelson, Pietoii and Wellington. He was transferred to Auckland as a telegraphist in 18S5, and remained there until 1907, when lie was promoted to be senior clerk and telegraphist at Kotorua. His transfer tt the postmastership at Ponsonby was in .lime, 1913. Mr. Braithwaite was married, but had no children.
