VISIT TO NEW PLYMOUTH. THE ARRANGEMENTS. A public meeting of citizens was he! 3 at the .Soldiers' Club, New Plymouth, last night, tor the purpose of making arrangemenls in connection with the visit of tha Prince of Wales to New Plymouth. Tim Mayor presided, and there was a larga and representative attendance. The Mayor outlined the programme which had been supplied to the authorities for their approval, and said the chief purpose of the meeting wa» to set up committees to take control of the different parts of the programme. He detailed what had been done in conference! with Lieut.-Colonel Melville and Captain Tahu Rhodes, and then read tie programme as follows: . 8.55 a.m.-—Royal party met at railway} station by Mayor and Councillors.' 9.10 a.m.—Proceed to Pukekura Parle via St. Aubyn, Queen, Devon, and! Liardet Streets. 9.20 a.m.-—Official Welcome by Mayor, and presentation of address from citizens. (Note: Portion of first terrace to be reserved for mothers who had sons killed at the war.) Presentation of addresses front other local bodies and institutions. fl.3;> a.m.—Reply by R.H.R. the Princ% of Wales. Inspection of returned soldiers, veterans, South African veterans, and returned nurae9, etc, Presentation of war honors. Inspection of school children. Walk through Park to motor at racecourse entrance to Park. 0.45 a.m.—Motor to High School. Pre* sentation of address from Maaonirt fraternity. Inspection of cadets; Morning tea. 10.45 a.m.—Return to railway station via Eliot, Devon and Egmonc Streets.
In reply to a question by Mr. H. A. Stratford as to number of outside children likely to be expected in New Plymouth for the occasion, Mr. P. J. H. White said it was only a day or two ago that advice had been received of a change in the arrangements cutting out the Prince's stop at Inglewood. He could, therefore, not say at present how many children would come in, but. it would probably result in all the children from Standard 111. upwards coming to New Plymouth. Committees were then appointed as follow: Street Decorations.—Messrs. W. H. Skinner, A. Roberts, and R. Bennock, with power to add. Street. Traffic.—Colonel Weston, Captain MacDiarmid, and Mr. W. H, Moves. Grounds Committee.-—The Mayor, Crs. R. L. Parkin, V. Griffiths, W. P. Short, A. S. Brooker, and P. J. Hill, Messrs C. E. Bellringer and P. E. Stainton (the chairman and secretary of the Pukekura Park Board), Air. L. A. Nolan (chairman of the T.,J.g Committee). Messrs. Newton King, W. ('. Weston, L. H. Webster, U. .Fraser, T. List, and P. J. H, White (Education Board).
Tiie Mayoress is to arrange a Ladies' Committee to have charge of the morning tea arrangements for the Royal party at the High School, and for decorating the platforms.
1 he following were elected to supervise the arrangements for providing refreshments for the school children,'who will come in from outside districts:—Messrs. •T. I). Sole, R. A. Large, F. J, Hill, A. C. Downes, V, H, Boal, J. W. Hnyden, E. Deare, R. 0. Ellis, and .with Messrs. S. <!. Smith, M.P., I<\ Hoskin, H, H. Gravling, P. ,1. H. White (representing tfie Education Honrd i. and school teachers and committees. Mr. Hill was appointed convener, A committer of school teachers will have charge of the assembling of school children in the oval at Pukekura l'ark.
