INFLUENZA.

TARANAKI CASES. Between March 8 and 10, the follow in p cases of influenza were notified in the Taranaki health district: Taranaki 44, Stratford 10, Hawera 74, Patea 38. The influenza which is prevalent in the Taranaki district at present is generally of a mild nature, but the authorities are not prepared to take nny risk of serious developments. With Ihis object in view the chairman of the Taranaki Hospital Board (Mr. M. Fraser) has evpiained the position to the Health Department, and Dr. Karis, Chief District Ilea Ith Officer, will visit Xew Plymouth this week to enquire into the matter and discuss the advisability of isolating houses jn which there are cases of influenza. A number of schools in Wanganui education district, including Patea, Alton, Manutahi and Kakaramen, have been closed for a time owing to the influenza. At Monday's meeting of the Hawera Hospital Board, Inspector Gray reported that 'l7l cases of influenza and five cases of pneumonia were notified throughout the district, and though most of the cases had been mild, there had been eight deaths; 202 of the cases and six deaths occurred in Hawera borough and Hawera county. The epidemic had probably almost run its course, for there was now a liig decrease in the number of notiiii-a-lions.
