BRITISH MINERS.
Direct action discussed. hope in labor government,; By Teleßraph.—Press Asan.^-Copyrlifht." London, March 11. At the Trades' Union Congress, Mfc' J. H. Thomas, M.P. (General Secretary; of the National Union of Railwaymenjj in liis opening'-speeeh referred to the instruction by a previous conference to send delegate* to Russia to investigate iho conditions there. Mr. Thomas stated that. Hi.re had been some difficulty regarding passports, hut the necessary arrangements had now been. made. It is understood that the delegation will include Messrs. Henderson, Ramsay Macdonald, Thomas, and Wijt Thorne.
.Advocating political action, Mr. Thomas declared there was a general belief in the early possibility of a Labor Government, when the l*bor> Party would find itself guardian of th< whole community instead of the trusted of a section. The policy of defying those in power would be an excuse fer retaliation against its sponsors.
Mr. dynes asserted that the man who would most welcome direct action was' Mr. Lloyd George. If the congress announced a general strike Mr. Lloyfis George would give them a general election on conditions which would find their class rent in twain, while all other classes would he united to fight whott would be regarded as an aggressive step. The force which the direct aetionist* proposed to employ was not a Britisi*. but a Prussian characteristic.— Aus.< N 7., Cable Assn.
