FLOWERS AND PRODUCE.
TEE ELTBAM SHOW. (Frc)m Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, March 8. The Eltham flower and produce show provided a splendid exhibition of ovi»r a thousand entries. There was a beautiful sltow of cut flowers, and the collections of vegetables were a striking feature of the show, and a good deal of instruction was to be obtained from studying the different exhibits of potatoes. The art and needlework formed an Interesting section, and the work generally was grcittly admired. The cookery and preserves were also very attractive sections. The Hon. W. F. Carncroes' special for bridal bouquet, was won by Mrs. H. C. Johnson. Other first prize winners In the bouquets Were Mrs. W. D. Ross, Miss Owen (2), Miss Lees (3), Mrs. Leeper, Miss A. Quin, Miss A. Wilson, Ohangal School, Lorna McNeil, Terence Syme, and Nora MoQulre, For tho best collection of flowers grown in the school gardens Ngaere School was awarded first prize, and Okalawa School second. Mrs. T. W. Owen won five first prizes and one second in the fruit section. Others to gain the first award for fruit were E. J. Whiting, H. C. Belcher, Mrs. D. Syme, and C. A. Wilkinson. A prominent prize winner In the cut Bowers section was F. H. Morgan, who won two firsts and six seconds. Other first prize winners were S. Flavell, C. A. List, Mrs. Kennedy, C. A. Wilkinson, Matapu School, W. Waters, Mrs. D. Syme, W. E. Henderson, Mrs. H. C. Johnson. For preserves, pickles, etc.. Mrs. G Velvln gained two firsts and three seconds, while lit tho section devoted to bread, cakes, etc., (he awards were well distributed. First prize winners for potatoes were Horace Stewart, A. D. Walker, I, Sanderson, W. \V. Cldrke, Wiggins, T. W. Owen, F. Mehrtens, T. A. Kennedy, G. Heaven, J. Aitken, Matapu School. Tho local schools potato competition (for n challenge shield, value £lO 10s, presented by the staff of the Eltham branch of the Farmers' Co-op.) resulted: Eltham 1, Ngaere 2, Matapu 3. Mangatokl 4. '
