ALLEGED EVICTION.

To the Editor. Sti, —Replying to "Publico," I might say that I do not know the officer referred to, neither do I even know lis name. Therefore I had no intention of implying anything of a personal nature against him. I am pleased to see that "Publico" champions him ao well, as I hare since heard him spoken of In the same way, hut, all the same, I myself could not face a job like that. ' As "Shlp-a-hoy" says, there are two sides to a question. I have knpwn tenants who deserve and ought to be pitched out, but again eases like the present should have a certain amount of legal protection. The cry of the Government has been "keep the cradles full," whilst at the same time we are faced with advertisements insisting on "no encumbrance." Now, Sir, under the present law, supposing I owned the house in question, would it not be possible for me to turn the tenant out, legally livo In it for a week or two. patch and paint it up and then sell? That, of course, might not be the intention in this case. The landlord, perhaps, wishes It for bona fide residence, but is It not easier for i person without encumbrances to obtain accommodation than a man and wife with four young children ? Verily, the present law badly needs repealing.—l am, etc., PRO BONO.
