INFLUENZA.
OUTBREAK ON WEST COAST. THE TOWN ISOLATED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greyraouth, March 3. It it now estimated that, there ure 200 cases of influenza at Runanga. The pneumonic type prevalent in the last epidemic is again developing. Approximately during the last week end there was a case every three hours. Four cases now in the Grey River Hospital are of the bronchial pneumonic type. The State mines are closed and Ri.nanga is completely isolated. Road patrols prevent all persons leaving or entering and travelling without a certificate is forbidden, Grcvmouth is still comparatively clear. ■-hristcliureh, Last Night. The Public Health Department at Christehurch received this morning an inquiry from the local authorities at Runanga whether it was deemed advisable to take urgent steps for preventi'lij the r-prcad of influenza in view of the notifications received. The inquiry does not carry the suggestion that the disease was of a severe nature, and the health officer for Canterbury and West land has not recommended extreme measures. A message, however, has been despatched to Runanga asking for a further report. Pending further developments nothing has been done by the Department, hilt it is authoritatively stated that should the outbreak turn out to be of the character indicated by, to-day's Press Association message extreme "measures will be taken, and the Westland district mobilised against the epidemic.
