OPUNAKE.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The Seaside Fete was held on Saturday, and there was a good attendance, but not equal to last year. This is the first occasion on which the fete had to be postponed. The gate takings amounted to £lO less than last year. There was also a decline in the takings at the luncheon and sweety stalls. The sideshows were well patronised, and these, financially, showed an increase. The Sports were for the juveniles, and the bare-footed kiddies took full advantage of all that were competitive. The sports committee comprised Messrs. Cook, Looney and Sorrensen, assisted at times by others. The luncheon stall and kiosk t were under the management of Mesdames Clarke, Pease, Whittington, Cook, Sinclair, Godey, Rogers, Hickey, Looney, des F(gges, and Thorpe, assisted by a number of young ladies as waitresses. The sheep guessing competition was under the manangement of Mr. and Miss Dudley. The weight was guessed by several, and the money divided. Peas in bottle competition was won by Mr. T. S. Ilickey. The lollit; and fruit stall was presided over by Mrs. and Miss Hammond. The refreshment stall was in the capable hands of Messrs Whittington and Shippey. The side shows, which provided ample scope for those at leisure were attended by Messrs A. J. Brennan, R. Baker, E. Thorpe, Callaghan, Cleghorn, Burton and others. The industrious donkey was kept busy by the youngsters. During the afternon the Federal Band provided a good programme of music. Influenza has made its appearance in a definite form here. At a special meeting of the Town Board steps were taken to close the Town Hall, and the public school is closed in consequence. The Town Board and the Harbor Board are making progress \Vith their loans, and in a few days something definite will be made known regarding the financial arrangements.
