MOTOR RECORD-MAKING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Feb. 23. William Stanley Miller, who established the new Picton-BliuT motor record, was fined £lO and costs in the Police Court for driving at a dangerous speed. According to the newspaper account produced by the Police Department he was averaging 40 miles en hour. FIXING OF RENT. Christchurch, Feb. 23. The Magistrate, Mr. McCarthy, gave his reserved judgment in the rent-fix-ing case. Inspector of Factories versus firant (landlord) and Longford (tenant). The magistrate held" that only the stable basis of valuation should be taken into account in fixing the capivalue.. The present Government valuation was £570, but the property would sell for £750 or £SOO. The latter value was dependent on various condition l ; arising out of the war 1 and th? partial suspension of th? building trade. It would perpetuate evtrs which legislation was designed .to prohibit if such a value were taken to compute the standard rent under the War Legislation Acts. Th? building svas in a certain state of i disrepair. The' magistrate theyefore fixed the present value at the maximum rent chargeable is 8 per cent on the capital valueFOXTON BOAT-SHED BURNED. Foxton, Feb. S3. Shortly after midnight on Saturfiay fire destroyed the rowing club's shed hnd contents, including the once famous Dolly Varden. The insurance was £l5O.
