PAPAROA MINE CLOSED. By Telegraph —Press Association. Greymouth, Feb. 21. The Paparoa mine has been closed. It has been declared black by tho men, who have divided the sick and accident funds, sold the hall piano and left the district. There has been discontent in the mine for some time and there were e'-ght disputes ljttst year. A SOLICITOR FINED. Divnedin, Feb. 21. John Ira Eraser, solicitor, Xaseby, was fined £i>o for not having his accounts audited within the due time. Mr. Bartholomew, S.M, said there appeared to be nothing but dilatoriness on defendant's part • He had no option but to inflict the minimum penalty. FREIGHT ON FLAX. Palmerston N., Feb. 21. A ucent meeting of the New Zealand Ffcixm fliers' Association decjded to ask ths Picmicr to place the matter of the increased shipping freights on hemp to America before the Board of Trade to npccrtain if the increase was warranted or not. CLUB LIQUOR CASE. Masterton. Feb. 21. At the S.M. Court yesterday, before Mr- Page. P.M., F. C> Watford was charged with keeping liquor for sale at the Masterton Club. The case was dismissed. H. M. Boddington (secretary of the club) and Watford (custodian) were charged with taking part in tlr- care and management and control of a club in the no-license district, of Masterton, which was used as a place of resort for the consumption of liquor and with storing in the club for other persons. On both charges tho Magistrate said he would give a written decision.
