WAITARA.
(From Our Own Correspondent) Feb. 17. The following will constitute the team competing at the Fire Brigades' Demonstration at-Stratford on Thursdny: Captain.Limmer, Lieut. Patten, Firemen J. Crow, S. Crow, E. Proctor, and K. Mnrgatroyd. They have been putting in solid practice for weeks, and deserve a win. A local motorist put in a good run the other day on an Indian motor bike. He left Hnstings at 7.30 a.m., and arrived in Waitara at 5.15 p.m. the same evening, after having spent an hour at Bannevirke with tyre trouble. The s.s. Wetere left Waitara yesterday afternoon for Puponga for a shipment of coal. The Waitara Road Dairy Co. have only sufficient coal to last one more day. For some time they have been economising by using half coal and half wood. They have, however, received word that one* truck of African coal is being railed from Wellington. The Dr.uids' Lodge held its regular fortnightly meeting on Monday night, when 30 members were present. Bis new members were initiated, and three more proposed. During the evening, Bro. Leah (who is leaving to reside in Auckland) presented the Lodge with a pair of nickel-plated sickles. The Ladga rnfnrbers thanked Bro. Leah for his contribution towards the Lodge furniture. ED.P. Bro. Fjwens, on behalf of the Lodge, then presented Bro. Leah with an electro-plated inkstand, suitably inscribed, as a token of remembrance of the high esteem in which he was held in the Lodge. The evening concluded with an ; educational address by Bro. T. Ewens on Lodge decorum.
