. . r ~ - - i NEW t LTMOTJTH CLUB., THE ANNUAL REPORT. [ Tha annual meeting of the New Plymouth Golf Club will be-held at the Soldiers' Club on Friday night. The annual report states : ' . During the year the Club has, citing to the termination of the war, shown more activity, competitions and inter-club matches having been.. revived. Our tournament last, ..fluster was a very successful ono, there being 75 entrants, showing a profit of £4O. Our membership is- again increasing, subscriptions totalling £329 2s 9d as against £248 16s 6d for the preceding year, and there Is evory Indication of a greatly Increased membership during the coming one. Ono debenture was Issued during the year just closed, and it is hoped members who do not hold any and have the interests of the Club at heart, will see their way clear to take up debentures and thus assist the Club. There are yot a fair number to issue. The mortgage to tho Bayly trustees fell due and was paid off. A fre9h mortgage for a further five years has been arranged. We wish to express the thanks of the Club '■ to Messrs. Andrew Smith and Geo. Grey for the gift of a punt fop use on the pond at No. 5 hole, to Mr. Johas for a Taranakl championship board, and to tlujse imembers who assisted in the construction of a bunker at No. It green and weed killing on Labor Day; also to Messrs. Smith and Johns for providing extra labor. We also wish to express our very great thanks to the ladles who assisted to provide luncheon and afternoon tea at tho Easter tournament, which in no small manner helped to make our tournament the success it -was. The Club is fortunate In obtaining tho services of Mr. W. Barnett, who has proved himself a capable man with a thorough knowledge of green-keeping and members and visitors have expressed their appreciation of the excellent, luncheons and afternoon -teas provided by Mrs. Barnett. Mr. W. H. Wood has resigned tho position of hon. secretary to the Club, and 'we Wish to dxpress the Club's thanks for Hi past services. Mr. J. Austlon has been elected in his stead. We have great pleasure In welcoming back to tho links those members who have returned from active service. The following are members of the Club who have imado the supreme sacrifice serving their Kingi and country: Messrs. R. H. Bally, S. J. Griffiths, V. J V. Hall, R. J. Cargo. During the term of tho war the Club's revenue would not permit of any expenditure on improvements, but it is desired to bring to your notico that the pavilion is greatly in need of painting, and suggest, that the incoming committee be recommended to have, this done. The sandhills, containing 2C acres; should he brought under grass as soon as possible, and when ready for play will provide some of the best holes on the conns. The Club is greatly in noed of a professional and it is hoped that an opportunity to securd the services of one will occur during the year. During he period of the war no entrance fees were charged. We recommend that they now be roinstated, but as.the Club is anxious to dispose of their debentures, any new mcimber taking up one or more will not be called upon to pay the entrance fee.
