WAITARA.
THE HARBOR BOARD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Waitara Harbor Board was held on Friday evening. Present: Messrs. J. Hine (chairman), H. McKenzie, R. Gribbon, W, H. Nosworthy, and A. W. Ogle. The N.Z. Association of British Manufacturers and their agents forwarded a letter asking for co-operation and preference to British goods, either for municipal or trading ventures.—Unanimously supported. The Mokau Harbor Board wrote, asking for information as to how consigning ts of benzine were dealt with at this whether stored in shed or stacked oji wharf, and, if stacked on wharf, whether the Board were liable in ";ase of theft, etc.—lt was resolved that a reply be forwarded to the effect that it is the Board's practice to store it in the Board's shed, but as to tho other matter mentioned, the Mokau Board were advised to obtain legal opinion. An assignment of lease of the Masonic Hotel from A. Julian to D. D. McPherson, A. Paul, and others was agreed to. v The chairman mentioned that the directors of the Farmers' Co-operative Organising Society had waited on him and asked for the lease of a piece of land adjoining their present allotment.—Resolved that the piece of land in question be put up for auction, subject to the usual conditions.
It was resolved that tenders, be called for Blocks C, 12, and 18, Waitara East, for a term of ten years, from 31st March next, and that the upset rental be £2 lfis; also that tenders be called for Block 15, Waitara-West, for a term of five years, at an upset rental of £B. The transfer of Mr. T. List's lease to Mr. C. Topless was agreed to. The Works Committee reported that the boat shed was in a deplorable condition, and recommended that a new shed be built, including a compartment for lamps, etc.—Left to committee. The matter of repairs needed to pilot house was also reported upon.—To be attended to by the same committee. The secretary reported that repairs to walls could not too gone on with at present, owing to labor difficulties and shortage of cement. A FAREWELL SOCIAL. The farewell social to Mr. Arms and family, on Friday evening, in Clifton Hall, was largely attended. Mr. Ford, I chairman of the school committee, presented Mr. Arms with a, cheque, and made eulogistic remarks in reference'to Mr. Arms' faithful services during the time he had been secretary of the School Committee. Mr. J. C. Blancliard, chairman of the Seaside and Surf Bathing Society, presents Mrs. Arms with a silver tea and coffee service, and Mr. Arms with a cheque on behalf of that Society, in doing so paying a tribute to Mr. Arms' services. During the evening songs were rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Were, Mr. W. Smith. Mr. Varley, and a Scotch dance by Miss Main. Mr. Hawkine was M.C., Mr. Fowler (piano) and Mr. S. George (cornet) supplied the music, while extras were kindly played by Mrs. Birdling, Miss Skeiton, and Mr. Gordon Fraser.
