A SPLENDID CONCLUSION. The Catholic Bazaar and Queen Carnival Coniper it ion, which opened in the Coronation Hall on Tuesday last was brought to a conclusion on Saturday night, and the y-imle undertaking was ■■* cml an unqualified success. Nothing definite can be- said at present as to the financial result of the carnival, but it is believed the effort will have realised a sum beyond expectation. All those associated with the work threw themselves into it with enthusiasm, but special mention should he made of the secretaries. Miss M. McCarthy and Mr. E. Whittle, jtin., who carried on the onerous duties with entire satisfaction 1 to all concerned- There was a big attendance on Saturday, both afternoon and evening. At night a miscellaneous programme was given, which was much enjoyed. The result of the Queen Carnival *h-"-nd the Convent candidate to lie the winner by a large majority, the figures being as follow: Convent (Miss Fleming) .. .17,77." Farmers (Miss E. Cudby) .. 2-2,992 Hibernian (Miss E. Whittle) 12,912 Sports (Miss Tui Scully) .. 11,52(1 Maori (Miss I. Skipper) .... 0,395 Labor (Miss M. Touhyj 1,912 The Art Union was not drawn, as a liumber of returns were not to hand and the date of closing has therefore been extended to Monday, the Kith.
At the end of the carnival on Saturfl" '' the floor was cleared and a very enjoyable hour was spent in dancing, the whole proceedings being brought to a conclusion shortly before midnight. Winners of raffles can secure their prizes this evening by applying to the secretary, Mr. E. Whittle, junr., at the Red House Hotel, betweeen 7 and 10 o'clock. All accounts against the committee should be forwarded to the secretaries at once. Mr. Hadler; pheasant cushion painted, Mr. Eustace; IDutch screen painted, Mr. F. ITawke. owl screen Cook: oil painting, Mr. F. Henderson; carved inlaid table chess, Mr. N. Ranson; painted plaque, Mis? fi. Prudence: pen painted table cprtre. Mr- Stan Howlett: pen pa.int.cd table centre plain. Miss I.
