MOA ROAD BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual meeting of the Board was held on Saturday, when the following members were present:—Messrs A. Corkill (chairman), R. Stuart, J. B. Simpson, Cowley, Hair, J. Hunter, Lyons, D. Todd. ENGINEER'S REPORT. The engineer reported on work done and to be taken in hand for the ensuing month, including concrete bridge over Makara on the Bristol Road, 127 chains laid off Motokowa Road for metalling, bringing the metalled portion of that road to 4y 2 to 5 miles from the Junction Road. Plans had been forwarded to the Department of Beckford Road bridges. Work on Everett Road was being carried on as fast as conditions would permit. Mr. Simpson asked,whether any damage had been done to the Mongonui bridge by Hood waters bringing debris down and lodging against the piers. Members were of opinion this could be remedied. Mr. Simpson moved that the action of Mr. Hunter, re boulders for Makara bridge, be confirmed.—Carried. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as fol-iows:-—i j-ujh Minister of Internal Aliuin, re county. Quotations were received from several traction engine owners, and it was eventually decided to inspect the engine of Mr. D. 0. AlacDonald, of Cliristchurch. From Farmers' Mutual Accident Insurance Association, re insurance Mrs Bain. The representative attended and explained the advantages of insuring with their Association. After several members ' spoken on the subject it was resolved that when all policies of i lie .ioardi expire any future business be placed with the Association.

*rom Public Works Department re metal from Mt. Egmont quarries asking ocal bodies to endeavor to order a continuous supply for nine months of the year.-Resolved that this Board place an order for 1000 yards for that period provided cost is right.

GENERAL. The chairman stated that the Makara concrete bridge was being carried on as rapidly as possible, but it was unfortunate that there was at present a shortage of cement. They had ordered tons some time back, but it had not come to hand. Unless cement came to liana soon works would be hold up. It was decided to write to the Board of trade pointing out that this Board is urgently in need of 25 tons of cement xo complete the construction of Makara bridge.
