STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) (All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. a. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will recelvt prompt attention.) "I Feb. 7. The fine weather brought a large influx of country people into town to-day, and the many various business establishments were kept fairly busy. The good work that is being carried out at the model dairy farm is now being generally recognised throughout the district and its fame is extending wider afield. There is no doubt that the management is animated by the desire to do everything in its power to advance the interests of farming and to make the institution the means of conferring great benefit on the industry, and that Stratford will add to its already high population as the result of this good work.
It is always an advantage to a town when on the disposal of a business the new proprietor is found to have taken an interest in municipal affairs elsewhere. This is the case with Mr. W. Melnnes, who recently acquired Mr. Edward's pharmacy, and it must be gratifying to Mr. Melnnes to have recently received a letter from the Motueka Council containing its beat wishes for his future success. \ Only one nomination (Mr. Geo. Stockwell) was received for the vacancy on the Whangamomona County Council caused by the retirement of the chairman, Mr. A. McCutchan. There should be a large attendance of sheep buyers at the Douglas yards on Monday, when amongst other good lines to be offered there will be between three and four thousand lambs and wethers submitted for sale on account of Mr. W. H. Perry. Those who value art as expressed in the famous Doulton ware should see the consignment of jugs, bowls, cups and saucers, plates, etc., now on view for the first time at H. J. Hopkins' shop. On each piece scenes from the classics are beautifully portrayed, the authors including Dickens and Shakespeare. See this ware for yourself. It will be sure to' appeal to you. Welcome, farewell, appreciative, or any other kind of illuminated address can be supplied promptly, and to the satisfaction of both giver and recipient. Consult McAllister, the Studio, Stratford. Reduce the depreciation in your motor car by taking it to C. D.. Mathews, Stratford, and if it is mechanically sound he will return it looking as well as when you first bought it, at a very small cost The best paints and varnishes, and ivorkmen who know their trade.
