EX-OFFICERS UNEMPLOYED.
THOUSANDS BARELY EXISTING. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Feb. 1. An Officers' Association, having as its object the betterment of the lot of exofficers, has been formally inaugurated at the Mansion House under the joint presidency of Lord Haig, Lord Beatty and Air Vice-Marshal Sir H. Trenchard. Lord Beatty, in a speech said that, when thoroughly established in London, the work of the association would fill up the present gaps between the departments of State and numerous voluntary associations. Lord Haig said there were 20,000 exofficers unemployed through no fault of their own, and 38,000 disabled eking out an existence on an average .annual pension of 70. He appealed to the public to provide half a million sterling to assist the work of the association.—Aus.IN.Z. Cable Assn.
