SOLDIERS' CHILDREN.

PAYMENT OF THE ALLOWANCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. Applications for the retrospective children's allowance approved last session are not being received by the Defence Department as freely as expected, despite the fact that details of the scheme have been widely published.

The wife of any soldier, if the guardian of his children, who has not received the maximum rate of the children's allowance (Is 6d a day) for the full period of his military service, is advised to communicate immediately with the officer in charge of War Expenses, Wellington, it being necessary to clear up all cases to which the grant is applicable as expeditiously as possible.
