DAIRY PRODUCE CONTROL.
THE ENGLISH SCHEME. New Zealand has been informed by cablegram that a movement is on foot among the handlers of dairy produce in Britain to form some kind of a committee to continue the control of these products in the same way as they have been handled during the war, under the requisition arrangements, for the coming seasons. Mr- Massey was asked what he thought of the scheme. Mr. Massey said in reply: "I don't know yet what the cablegram means. I don't know whether it means that the committee is being set up by the producing countries in the interests of the producers with the object of preventing exploitation of either producer or consumer, or whether it is being set up for the purpose of getting control of the products from overseas, with the object of such exploitation as the American Meat Trust has been able to carry on. The cable news is not at all clear, but I am cabling the High Commissioner for a full explanation as to what is intended, and reminding him to see that the interests of this country are protected."
