THE FUTURE OF SOfILESWIG. By Telegroph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Copenhagen, Jan. 15. The International Commission has issued a proclamation to the inhabitants of Schleswig, stating that the evacuation of German troops and authorities will be completed on January 20 and calling on all classes loyally to cooperate with the commission in maintaining order.
The plebiscite in the first, cr northeast zone, is fixed for February 10. In connection with the above it is noteworthy that the northern zone is regarded a? likely to go to Denmark, the second or middle zone, which is the most important, including Flensburg, a potential rival of Copenhagen, is largely inhabited by Germans, while the Danish Government has abandoned the Idea of a plebiscite in the third or southern zone, fearing the German population would join Denmark in order to escape war taxation.
[The Peace Treaty provides that within fifteen days of the Treaty coming into force German troops and certain officials must leave the Eastern plebiscite areas, which are to he administered temporarily by representatives of Great Britain, France, Italy, and the United States, with the support of troops. The plebiscite vote is to he taken not less than six nor more than eighteen months after the establishment of the Allied commissions. In the case of Schleswig, the evacuation of the German authorities and troops is to be made within ten days, and the vote is to be taken not less than time weeks later.]
