WRECK OF THE AFRIQUE.
THE CREW AT THEIR POSTS. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 19, 7.25 p.m. Paris, Jan. 17. In view of the comments that only Senegalese soldiers and the crew were saved from the wreck of the Afrique, inquiry elicited that the crew did everything possible, the stokers remaining at their post till the vessel struck the rocks. There was no panic. Passengers hesitated to take their places in the boats owing to the mountainous seas. It is stated that owing to the pumps becoming Chocked with cinders, what might have been a mere accident became a disaster.—Times Service.
