FORCE OF 638 SHIPS. SUGGESTED RE-ORGANISATION. By Talegjaph— Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Jan. 20, 12.10 a.m. Washington, Jan. 10. Admiral Koontz, Chief of Naval Operations, has recommended to the Naval Committee of the House of Representatives a naval force of G3S ships. He suggested a reorganisation of the existing naval forces, retaining seventeen Dreadnoughts, thirteen pre - Dreadnoughts, eight armored cruisers, eighteen cruisers, fourteen gunboats, 209 destroyers, 141 submarines, eleven destroyers' tenders, 55 submarine chasers, and thir-ty-six mine-sweepers.
He pointed out it would require a personnel of 91,000 to keep the foregoing force ready for sea on a basis of 65 per cent complement.
It is estimated the naval appropriations for 1921 are 575,000,000 dollars, and for 1920 613,000,000 dollars.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
