APPEAL FOR BOLSHEVIKS. Vienna, Dec. 2i5. The Austrian Social Democrats appeal to British and America Socialists to use their infiuenee to stop the wholesale slaughtering of Communists in Hungary. Lynchings in the neighborhood of Budapest are of daily occurrence.
THE FRENCH PRESIDENCY. Paris, Dec. 26. The election of M. Poincaire's successor, according 'to the press, is fixed for January 17. Til. Clemenceau is believed to be a candidate, despite his denials. CRIME IN BRITAIN.
London, Dee. 24. Sir Neville McCeadv, Police Commissioner, in liis annual report, states that ordinary crimes, for example burglary and house -breaking, during 191!) showed a decrease compared with 1913. Robberies are now performed by experts and there is much use of motors, which liaß rendered arrest more difficult. Murders and violent attacks have not increased, but the similarity of method is a sensational feature and has attracted abnormal attention. EMBARGO ON CANADIAN PAPER. Vancouver, Dec. 23. The Canadian Paper Controller seized seven carloads of newspaper en route from Ontario mills to the United States. The Controller will not release the shipment until the mills provide sufficient paper for several Winnipeg publications which are reported to be in danger of ceasing publication owing to lack of supplies.—Renter-
