FUTURE OF AUSTRIA.

London, Dec. 17. j The Daily Telegraph's Milan correspondent states that the situation in Austria is so desperate that in several provinces, Vorarlberg, Salzburg, and the Tyrol, there is a strong agitation to break away from Austria. Vorarlberg desires to join Switzerland, Salzburg and the Tyrol wish inclusion in Germany. The Tyrolese threaten to break away forcibly, declaring* that the Austrian Republic is unable to feed the people. The Tyrol Diet adopted a resolution asking Vienna to obtain from the Supreme Council at Paris permission for the Tyrol to join the German economic system. Paris, Dec. 16. With reference to the Separatist movement in Voraralberg, etc., the Supreme Council has notified Dr. Renner that it will not permit any measures impairing the integrity of Austria or compromising Austria's political and economic independence, as provided in 1 the Peace Treaty.—Aus.-N.Z.
