CHINA AND JAPAN.

THE FOOCHOW RIOTS. By Telegraph.—Press Ass/.— Copyright. Tosio, Dec. 116. China demanded that Japan should apologise for the Foochow riots and the dispatch of Japanese warships to the port. The demands include the recall of the Japanese Consul, the punishment of Formosans of Japanese allegiance for killing Chinese students, compensation for the latter's relatives, the punishment of the Chief of Police, and the prohibition of Japanese merchants carrying arms. It is unlikely that Japan wilt comply, as the Japanese authorities assert that the Chinese students were wholly responsible for the riots. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
