PRIZE-GIVING CEREMONY.

WESTOWN SIDE SCHOOL The annual prize giving ceremony in connection with the Westown Side School of the Frankley School took place last night in the Westown Hall, which was packed. Mr. A. R. Davis, chairman of the Frankley Committer, presided, and after expressing appreciation of the fine attendance expressed regret that there were no representatives from the district on the Frankley Committee, The first portion was taken up by a concert, the majority of the items being given by the children attending the school, and the manner in which they went through the varidta pretty dances and marches reflected great credit on the training given by their teachers, Misses Warren and Hodder, who were also responsible for the stage decorations. All the items were greeted with applause. The programme was as follows: Opening recitation, Elsie Wallath; soldiers' song and march, School children; dialogue "The Rival Speakers," Sydney Tonks and Howard Edward; recitation, "Mammy's Baby," Marjorie Sole; children's dance, by ten little children; recitation, "My Table Lesson," Stella Autridge; dialogue, "The Train to Mauro," Miss Warren, Elsie Wallath, and Howard Coad; song, in Scotch costume, Reggie Styles, Howard Edwards, and Ernest Yorke; song "Mickey" Olive Autridge; action song, "Good-Night," eight little girls. All the accompaniments for (the children's items! were played bv Miss Warren. Songs were contributed by Miss Lister and Messrs. Crocker and Tunbridge, all being greatly appreciated by the audience. The accompaniments were played by Miss Hair and Mr. Bellringer. Mr. Davis then briefly thanked the parent? for the assistance they had given in connection with the entertainment, and called on Mr. P. J. H. White, member of the Taraaki Education Board to present the prizes, which Mr. White did in a few happy words. He paid a tribute to the work done by the children, and expressed the hope that in the near future a school worthy of the district would bo erected. Prizes were then distributed as follows:

Mr. White then announced that the school would break up on Tuesday for the Christmas holidays which he hoped all would enjoy. Mr. Sims, headmaster of the Franklev School stated that the side school liad fully justified its existence, and the teachers "there were doh.ij splendid work.
