THE BUTTER CONTRACT. MORE SPACE WANTED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received Dec. 11, 12.15 a.m. London, Dec. 5. Sir Thomas Mackenzie interviewed Mr. G 11'. Roberts (the Minister for Food), asking whether the Government desired to renew the butter contract atter August next. He no'iued out that official returns showed that meat in cold storage in Britain oniv amounted to 100,000 tons, out of a total storage capacity of 220,000. If the balance of space was occupied by goods requiring refrigeration, he asked Mr. Roberts to clear it out, and facilitate the storage of refrigerated cargoes awaiting discharge. Sir Thomas Mackenzie also urged that as the Argentine contract expired in September the Government should utilise the tonnage thus released to bring the Imperial Government's meat purchases from the Dominions, and also provide space for apples and rabbits. Mr. Roberts replied that Cabinet would be called together to consider this matter forthwith.—Aus.-NZ. Cable Assn.
