THE NEW PLYMOUTH ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT.

To the Editor. Sir, —Your correspondent, Mr. W. Nash, is either careless in his statements or disingenuous. In your issue of Wednesday last, referring to the profit derived from the electrical department, he said it was transferred to the pockets of two or three of the wealthier citizens. In your issue of Saturday, he says it is applied to the relief of each (or every) ratepayer, in proportion to the amount of rates he pays. Mr. Ivacli may be able to reconcile these statements, but to me they appear to be contradictory.—l am, etc., , C. E. BAKER.
