SALVATION ARMY.
BAND LEAGUE FESTIVAL. The Salvation Army Band League held a festival yesterday, which was very successful. At 6 p.m. the members were entertained at tea, which was followed by an enjoyable programme of music in the Army Hall. The items were contributed by the • Band, which gave a number of new selections, and several of the members played solo and quartette items. Thoy.were also assisted by a number of friends, piano solos being given by Miss Asher, banjo and piano selections by Messrs. Gadd Bros., songs by Misses P. Frederic and F. Asher, and a recitation by Master Cobb. Bandsman Trim played a euphonium solo, and Misses M. Halves and E. Roeh played a pianoforte duet. Encores were the order of the evening. Bundmaster Rooh expressed the thanks of the Band to the members of the League, whose contributions went towards the upkeep and improvement of the Band. There were now in the League about 73 members, who contributed one shilling per month. During the past two years more than £l5O had been raised by the band, which, considering the number of members who had been away on active service, was very creditable. He thanked those who had helped with the programme, and also Mr. Hoffmann for the loan of a piano. Commandant Rowlands supplemented the words of thanks to those who had assisted, and also said that Bandsman A'. Smith had been appointed deputy-band-master, and would conduct the Band, Bandmaster Roch continuing to play with the other members.
