The General Assembly in the evening discussed the Church union, and finally carried by 155 votes to 34 a motion by Dr. Gibb expressing thankfulness for the remarkable growth' of feeling and the conviction favorable to the union between this church and the Methodist and Congregational Churches, as indicated by the returns from presbyteries, sessions, and congregations, confidence that a desire for the xmion would grow, so that before many years pass the three churches would be able to form one great united Church of New Zealand. It is clear to the Assembly, however, that the feeling for the union in this church is not yet sufficiently widespread to justify an immediate effort to open up negotiations with the other two churches, and the Assembly resolves to postpone a decision on the point.
