THE BUTCHERS' STRIKE.
CARTERS JOIN STRIKERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. There has been a new development of the. butchers' strike to-day, the carters outside of the butchery trade refusing to cart meat supplies from the city on board vessels in port. This affected supplies for the Home liner Arawa to provide lor the voyage from Auckland to Wellington. The chief steward and staff earned sufficient and went on board Indian fashion, pausing now and again for rest. They carried on board many hundreds of pounds of meat. The carters also refuse to cart meat from the railway station for the Auckland City Meat Company. The butchers, however, have reopened two more shops. The public is taking kindly to frozen meat and is surprised to find it is so much like newly-killed. MORE HOPEFUL OUTLOOK. Auckland, Last Night. The prospects of the butchers' strike are slightly improved. The master butchers met to-night and agreed to hold a conference with the union, the Conciliation Commissioner to preside. The date of the conference' was not decided, but it will probably be held on Mondav. ' .
