NEW PLYMOUTH BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.

MORE FUNDS WANTED.

The New Plymouth Beautifying Society held its monthly meeting at the office of the president (111' C. R. Hughes; on Wednesday. Despite the rough weather, there was a good attendance. Mr. C. B, S. Russell reported having conferred with the several otlier societies with a view to amalgamation for a time, at least. The results would bo more satisfactory if tlie different .committees were to work on their own. Eventually all such societies would come under the Town Planning Act. The president reported that satisfactorywork was being done at Baines Terrace under the supervision of -Mr. W. W. Smith. It was the. intention of the Society to not only beautify the walks, etc., hut to also " make it suitable for picnic parties. The secretary reported that seats and tables had been generously promised by different business people. The president drew attention to the necessity for raising funds for the work in hand at Baines Terrace and other localities. There was only £lO in Uand, and there were several small accounts to be paid, besides the wages of two men at 12s per day. It was left to the secretary to confer, and arrange means for raising funds besides the canvass for memberships, and to report to next meeting.
