CITIZENS' BAND.

The visit of the New Plymouth Citizens' Band to Tariki yesterday provided a red-letter day, musically, in the history of the district. The band left town at 9 a.m., and arrival at Inglewood they gave a short programme on the band rotunda in the centre of the town. There was a goodly gathering of townspeople present. The items were greatly appreciated by the citizens, and Mr. Humphries, in the absence of the Mayor, conveyed their thanks to Mr McLeocl and the band for the music, incidentally suggesting that the hat might be taken round with advantage. This was a pleasant surprise for the bandsmen, as such a proceeding was not even hinted at. We understand that the "hat" realised £2 10s Cd. The members then proceeded oil their journey, and reached Tariki just before noon. Stands were quickly erected, and selections given before the luncheon adjournment. The afternoon's programme was a musical feast for the iar»e gathering, there being a strong contingent present from Stratford and Inglewood. Mr. McLeod was specially happy in his choice of items, and it, was not surprising to find that the dav's enjovment, so far as it concerned the musicians from New Plymouth, was all too soon over from the country people's point of view. Tt speaks well for the bandsmen, when it is stated that several items had to-be played by special request, while some even had to be repeated. The band are loud in their praise of the treatment they receiyed at thi-> hands of all concerned, particularly the ladies' refreshment committee. Ringing cheers were exchanged as the bijr motor moved off on the homeward journey, and the hand committee would like to convey their thanks to Mr Bremmuhl for the way he conveved them to and from the sports. The party reached town about 0,15 p.m., after a most enjoyable time. Mr. E. Sole, chairman of the Citizens' Committee, accompanied the band, and in the afternoon Archdcpnn nnd Mrs, Evans, with a car load of New Plvmouth soldiers, also joined the gathering.
