HYDRO-ELECTRICITY.

COST OF TRANSMISSION LINES. In regard to the development of hydroelectric power, the Borough Electrical Engineer (Mr. R. H. Bartley), at the Borough Council meeting last night, took exception to some statements made by Mr. J. H. Lyon on Saturday in reference to his (Mr. Bartley's) evidence before the Commission as to the cost of erecting transmission lines. Mr. Bartley said Mr. Lyon's statement that lines could be erected at a cost of £SOO per mile, to carry a certain voltage, took no account of the power to be transmitted, which was the all-important thing. He said it might have been possible before the war, but not at the present time. The Town Clerk stated that what Mr. Lyon had said in regard to the Moa Road Board securing the inclusion in the borough's license of provision for revising prices every five years was not correct. The board had secured, through the Commission, nothing more than the council had already embodied in its agreement with the Ingle wood Borough Council. The Commissioner had thought it a good provision, and had suggested that it be included in the license.
