NEW PLYMOUTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

ADJOURNED MEETING. An adjourned meeting of the New Plymouth Borough Council was held last night. The Deputy Mayor (Mr. VV. A. Collis) presided, and there were also present: Cra. J. Clarke, J. AV. Hayden, P. J. Hill, W. F. Short, A. S. Brooker, R. L. Parkin, and V. Griffiths. FRANKLE IGH PARK MATTERS. A letter was received from the Frankley Road Settlers' Association in regard to the condition of Govett Avenue, the extension of water mains on Frankley Road, and improving the bank at Frankley Hill. The engineer, *in a letter, said the matter of water mains extension had been reported on previously, but the question had been held over on account of the difficulty of obtaining materials. The condition of. Govett Avenue had also been reported upon, but was held over on account of the cost urgent work to be done at the time. The bank referred to was presumably that on the property of Mr. Jones. A footpath had been made on the opposite side of the road, but was not used enough to keep down the growth. Danger notices had also been posted up. A deputation from the Settlers' Association waited on the council in support of the matters mentioned in the letter. Mr. E. Allen said it was some time since a deputation from the association had asked for the Frankley Road to be tar sealed, and for a bus service to the Park. The road had been tarred, and a bus service had been commenced, but unfortunately it came only to the corner of the road, and therefore served only a few residents on the route, while the residents of the Park had to walk nearly half-way to town before they could take advantage of the service. He stressed the need for having an additional length of road tarred around tK'e corner to as far as Doralto Road, so that the bus service could be extended into the Park. He thought that, with the attraction of Mr. Frethey's gardens, and the residents of the Park, there would be good traffic on the bus.

It was pointed out that the cost of laying a 6in. jnain was in the vicinity of £llOO, and the council had not- seen its way to go on with the work. The deputation urged that if the council had brought the pipes down the road from the Park there would only be a difference in distance of about 10 chains, and the whole of the residents on the road would be served. The piatter of the extension of the water main was referred back to the engineer, and the state of the road mentioned was referred to the Streets SubCommittee. MISCELLANEOUS. Messrs Govett, Quilliam and Hutchen wrote to the effect that Mrs. Hunt and Messrs Jury and Tozer were each willing to pay £lO towards the cost of the extension of the sewer to enable their properties to be connected. The engineer said the cost would be £OB, and the borough's share would be £3B if the offer was accepted. It was decided to Tcply that the council could only undertake the work provided the owners paid three-fourths of the estimated cost. Permission was given to the Plunket Society to take up a collection at Kawaroa Park on the evening of November 20, when the Citizens' Band had undertaken to give a recital on behalf of their funds. / The following were approved as the executive of the East End Reserve Committee: Messrs A. L. Roberts, A. S. Brooker, A. J, Richards, J. Corrigal, W. L. Russell, F. Payne, and J. D. Roch. The council approved the following names submitted as officers of the recently formed Mt. Bryon Beautifying Society: Messrs A. S. Brooker, A. L. Hammond, E. Jackson, J. Boswell, H. Northern, W. Buckle, and D. Gillespie.
